its a 1963 953 in pretty good shape. The motor turns over good and has good compression, only missing a few parts, head lights and starter generator. the serial number on it is 62-533. any help with headlight would be great. thanks

Great find for a "last" tractor! To answer the headlight question, you need to determine if you have an early model or a late model 953. There may be a couple of things to help indicate this: A.) The headlight bracket itself should be your best indicator if this is still on the tractor, if it is a three peice bracket you need the early style headlight buckets that bolt on with three bolts per bucket, however; if you have a one peice headlight bracket you need the later "1054" style buckets that have one hollow theaded stud mount per bucket. B.) If you have the "Ross" style steering gear the probability is that you also have the early style headlights. C.) If you have the steering wheel center cap it could be either round= late model or the other style indicating early model.

I do not have the bracket. It looks like it bolts on in the middle, i know the grill isnt the orignal.

Only six? I'd say go for tractor number 7, and wife number 2. :ychain:

Last tractor..... You need to take her around to some of our sheds. It will either scare her or she'll agree a couple more won't hurt.

Nice tractor not in bad shape at all

:laughing-rofl: I have heard that before as well, but I remind her of all the things I could be doing instead of staying home in the garage toiling away . . .:banana-guitar:

You gotta tell us what the other yellow tractor is in the background :eusa-think:

Nice score! I can honestly say my wife doesn't have a clue as to how many tractors I have. Some things are better left unsaid. Besides, they all look the same to her, she thinks she is seeing the same ONE all the time anyway. CLUELESS.

I see that it has the Ross steering and that someone has cut the center out of an original steering wheel that appears to otherwise be in good shape.....shame.

This thread reminds me of "Roger's Rules For Collecting Old Iron (and Living with Your Spouse)"

by Roger Welsch:

RULE #1

Collect only one model and make of tractor- nothing but John Deere Bs or

Allis Chalmer Gs, for example. When all your tractors are the same color

and shape, it's harder, if not impossible, for anyone (if you catch my

drift) to figure out how many tractors you actually have.

RULE #2

Similarly, never line up your tractors, ever. Nothing distresses a

difficult spouse more than seeing twelve old tractors lined up, looking

for all the world like a burning pile of hundred dollar bills.

Rogers full list of rules:

http://swingleydev.com/archive/get.php?message_id=6429&submit_thread=1

From the book:

http://www.amazon.com/Old-Tractors-Never-Die-Feeding/dp/0896585638

I got the book for Christmas..from my wife! ;)

(who doesnt yet quite understand what is in store!) (I only have one tractor so far! ;)

The book is a very fun read, Roger has a few other books too, I plan to get some more..

even though I don't have (or plan to ever have) "full size" tractors, everything still applies to our hobby..
