jay in nc 210 #1 Posted January 18, 2013 got a call wed. night from the brother of a friend. they are into cleaning out old farms & places for the scrap. so i saved this 310-8 from going to the crusher. looks like the engine was out for a rebuild & somthing happened. all the pto clutch pulleys & parts were wired to the frame as well as the drive pulley& mower mule drive & belt. the gas line was plugged off & the tank doesn't smell varnishy. one front tire goes flat & it had a 12volt fan bolted to the hood . there wasn't a mower deck but for $75.00 dollars i couldn't pass it up! then while i was leaving i bought an onan twinn & a kohler magnum vertical shaft for 5 dollars apiece. SCORE ! the pictures are after a quick wipedown with a rag dipped in the parts washer. the other 310-8 towed it back to it's new home in the tractor shed. so now i am on the lookout for a complete 10-14 hp k series or magnum to put this back together. come on whcc in june. 546cowboy 301 #15 Posted January 19, 2013 That's a deal and you would be amazed by some of the stuff you can get cheap in the scrap yard. I did really well last year. The one close to me doesn't get many Horses though. In the last two years I have only seen one and that one got sold before I saw it but I went to the guy that bought it and got it from him. Most of the stuff I get is Simplicity and with a little work they sell good.
JackC 617 #16 Posted January 19, 2013 That ONAN twin would fill that space under the hood very nicely.
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #17 Posted January 19, 2013 Dang Jay, you did do good on that one! That 310 looks every bit as good as how you described it on the phone yesterday. OK, I better get busy. Looks like its my turn to rescue one next :text-search:
diesel cowboy 263 #18 Posted January 19, 2013 Nice save on the tractor and engines. The Kohler is actualy a command cause its an over head valve. Makes it even better on the price. Stewart
jay in nc 210 #19 Posted January 19, 2013 the kohler is a parts engine for my lt1000 sears lawn tractor. about 2005 the carb shaft broke at one of the butterfly screws & it sucked the screw through the engine. scored the snot out of the bore. has used oil ever sence !
