Ken B 3,164 #26 Posted January 9, 2013 I got 2600 out of the deal. When I got home after work I tore the one door and tire carrier off and replaced that door, I then fixed the other door and you can hardly tell that one was even hit. I also got most of the dent out that was under the right rear tail light. I have a line on a bumper for 50 bucks from one guy. Another guy has the tire carrier, ladder, class 3 hitch and rear louvers for 75 bucks. I'll buy the paint this week end and I'll probably paint the rear doors this weekend as well in my shop at work. I think for under 550 bucks It'll be back in shape. I was considering having the whole van painted but at the end of the day it is an 89, the paint on it is still in pretty good shape. I'm scouring C/L for a nice set of old school aluminum slot mag rims for it though....Maybe a few other goodies.
fireman 1,021 #27 Posted January 9, 2013 That's SWEEET!! The rest of the money should almost cover what you paid for the van! Good Deal!

Ken B 3,164 #30 Posted January 9, 2013 I might have made a few bucks but its still a hassle that I'd rather not have happened. If I only stayed in Harbor Freight for a few more seconds... My 10 yr old was with me when this happend and just this morning he woke up crying and sore as hell. My wife took him to the doctors today and his arm is now in a sling. His shoulder is all black and blue do muscle strains. It may sound like I'm making out money wise but I'd be much happier if my sons arm wasn't in a sling and him being sore. CasualObserver 3,408 #31 Posted January 9, 2013 Well that definitely sucks. I was just referring to the fact that they're paying you without much of a fight and you ended up making money on the deal. Good luck with the injuries. via Tapatalk

So sorry to hear that, Ken! I feared this phenomena... you don't always feel the injury initially... it sets in later. I hope he feels better soon!
Will G 3 #33 Posted January 9, 2013 Ken, glad no one was seriously injured and that you will be able to fix your van.
Ken B 3,164 #34 Posted January 13, 2013 Just a little update. I've been doing a lot of parts chasing and repairs over the past few days. I've been working on the van after work thruout the week hammerin and tweakin. I went into work one day at 3:30 am and painted one of the doors and then hung it yesterday. Today I hung the new rear bumper and brackets I scored at a junk yard earlier in the day. Also scored a tire carrier today. Tomm. I'll paint the other door at work and within another day or so this thing is done, for under 500 bucks too boot.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,294 #35 Posted January 13, 2013 Awesome....you'll have a few bucks left over for those aluminum slots and any other custom tweaking you might want to do. Mike..........

Ken B 3,164 #40 Posted January 19, 2013 She's all done. I wanted old school aluminum slots for the van but they are hard to come by. I was at Pep Boys the other day and they were having a close out on these rims. 39 bucks each! I had to buy a set.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,294 #41 Posted January 19, 2013 Rims look great! I bet you have enough cash left over to get a 2" receiver on the back of that bad boy! Mike..........
Ken B 3,164 #42 Posted January 19, 2013 I bought the tire carrier frame from a guyoff C/L for 50 bucks and he threw in a 2 inch reciever for nuttin. It looked terrible but its real solid. I stripped it down and gave it some fresh semi gloss black. It looks like new now. I'll throw it on real soon.

Ken B 3,164 #48 Posted January 19, 2013 Last night I decided to give the van a FULL tune up because I had no idea when it was done last. I'm happy to report everything is dry under the dog house. The plugs look as though they were in there for a real long time but they are all nice and dry and burning clean. The 350 runs real good, maybe even more nut than the 350 in my Chevy stepside. The only things I want to add are some wider tires on the rear rims and I want to upgrade the exhaust system to a dual setup with Magnaflows, OR I'd really love to add some side pipes. A little voice in my head keeps telling me to hell with it, just side pipe it! The van is now emissions exempt which is one of the main reasons I wanted a van this old. (other than the fact I like the older body style and that I worked on a ton of them at the Chevy dealership for yrs.) If the van ever needs a motor there is a fresh 1970 350 LT1 in my father in Laws garage that is mine for the taking. I'm not so sure I wanna give up the fuel injection on the van as it does pull 18 mpg on the highway but 400 hp on tap sure would be nice. I know I wouldn't be playin tag along pulling the long hills in our convoy on the way to the Big Show!
VinsRJ 721 #49 Posted January 19, 2013 Ken, I'm glad to see that this situation has worked out. The van is looking "right-on"! Side pipes would be cool too....
