Sparky-(Admin) 21,289 #1 Posted January 21, 2007 Well the search is over for a "D" seriers tractor. I bought just today a 1977 D-160 with a twin ONAN motor. She came with a HUGE snow-blade and a 48" mower deck. With some help from my neighbor we had it running and I was driving it around the yard. It still needs some tinkering but its complete and a good candidate for fixing up. It also has a 3 point hitch on the rear. I will send some pics to Karl and maybe he can post em for me. Sparky-(Admin) 21,289 #6 Posted January 23, 2007 Thanks for posting my pics Karl. Whenever I start talking tractors to my wife she just starts to get that glazed over look and says that she cant keep track of em by numbers...312-8...701...B-100...C-120....GT1142, just to name a few. So she has been naming em and expecting me to remember which one is called what so she can follow along when I start rambling on about one of them. Well Sunday afternoon she was staring out the kitchen door at the D-160 and turned to me and said that one is "BIG ED". So thats that...its got a name. Mike...owner of BIG ED...Charlie Horse...Lucy....Lucky...you get the idea.

Sparky-(Admin) 21,289 #10 Posted February 1, 2007 Yep I've been watching em on e-bay. I need to get some basic stuff first like a choke cable and tune up items to get her runnin perfect. This one busted my tractor budget for the next couple of months. I try to not dip into the household money to fund my "tractor addiction" so usually I'm selling off non Wheel Horse tractors and attachments to get the cash to buy a new Wheel Horse. I just sold tonight a 1960 something Beaver 750 with a dirt plow and a snow blade. The week before I found this Wheel Horse I sold a mid 70's Sears garden tractor that was in real bad shape but had a good running Onan 16 twin motor. I figured I would never do anything with the motor so I sold it as a complete tractor and was real happy to get $150 for it. THEN........I go and see this Wheel Horse and it has an Onan 16 twin! If I had known that I would of kept the Sears around as a spare motor in case the Onan in the new "D" went bad. Oh well!! Mike
Bill 4 #11 Posted March 6, 2007 You know Mike that D sure would look good in my shed!! Just a suggestion :D
Sparky-(Admin) 21,289 #12 Posted March 6, 2007 Probably would fit better in your shed as well. I have room to store 11 tractors indoors and the "D" was my 12th tractor ! So for now its hiding out in my fathers garage till I can get the time and space to work on it( I ain't tellin where the garage is). I think once spring gets here she'll get the attention she needs and I can start "cruising" on it. I only drove it about 10 minutes when I brought it home on a 8 degree day and with out the optional steering wheel/grip warmers it wasnt to pleasant, but it was a cool feeling sittin up all high and mighty on it. Sparky-(Admin) 21,289 #14 Posted April 27, 2007 She seemed to run good for the 10 minutes I had to drive it. I just hope the tranny is still good after an hour or more of work.....Oh well...we'll see this summer. Mike
