my first round hood

Smack the starter body with something solid, not hard but firm. My starter does the same thing from time to time and needs a small attitude adjustment.

ya i think the starter needs a good cleaning and lube too.

so what is the best way to take out the spark plug and take off the carb for cleaning.

take off the hood and steering wheel i'd imagine correct?.

well i ended up taking the motor out.

got it running on the bench. runs great.

the solenoid was bad and spark plug as questionable. so those got replaced.

it needs some wiring fixed as it won't turn off with the key.

gonna paint the tins tomorrow while it's out of the tractor.

1 question though..... should the pull start be red or silver/aluminum?

Nice little suburban.

Didn't know the dozer blades had a foot pedal. Can someone post a picture of what it is for? Is it for rotating the blade?

From post #18 of this thread

Just a note for you. The factory set up for the dozer blade used a foot pedal that connects to the pin with a small chain to pull it when angling the blade. A small rope like clothes line is used that hooks to each top corner of the blade with S hooks and drapes around the steering wheel. Push the pedal to release the pin and use the rope to pull the blade for changing the angle from the seat.

Was looking through photos of the 401 I'm restoring. Found this picture and remember now that I couldn't figure out what this pedal was for. Now just need to find what I did with it.

Yup, that's it. They always seem to be missing like the belt guards but at least they are fairly easy to reproduce

Pull the rope. :hide:

See - I told you that would work. :hilarious:

Is the clicking only audible, or can you actually feel it too?

Check the set screw on your wheel hubs, one might have backed out.

My grandson is 11 and we are just finishing a restoration on his 400. His dad traded some computer parts for it and it looks just like fourwheels0 tractor. It appears that we have everything included, such as exhaust guard, belt covers, mower deck, fenders, hitch, etc. WE are waiting on new tires and seals for the transaxel. I will post some pics when its done.

ok i did a bit more cleaning and added a back rest (it needs the cover done).

now i have a dilemma. my sister in-law has fallen in love with it and says it's not leaving the property.

i have no clue what these sell for and if i sell it to her (with the trans fixed) don't know what to ask.

well seems there is no interest in this in the classifieds so i took it down.

trying to sell locally and if that doesn't work then it gets buried in the barn until the big show in june.

hopefully it will sell there.
