1973Auto 80 #1 Posted December 28, 2012 Hello all. I posted this question sometime ago concerning the pivot ball popping out of the plastic cam plate. Well I fixed it before and it worked, then I fixed it again, and again....see a pattern here. I put in a new cam plate, very difficult because there is no room to jockey the plate around. After I get it back together , dive it and for some reason the pivot ball keeps popping out!!!!!! Before I do what I don't want to do, put a rod in the eccentric cam hole and drive it that way, I am looking for any ideas/solutions before I go that route. I had to file down the pivot ball and the cam itself because the ball was hitting the cam. Tractor is a 1973 auto. Thanks in advance.
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted December 28, 2012 Did you happen to check the transaxle mounting plate on the tractor frame? If it is cracked or broke there can be alignment / engagement issues at the cam plate / DCL ball.
1973Auto 80 #3 Posted December 28, 2012 Terry: No for the reason that I do not know what that is . Can you post a diagram to walk me thru it .
Kelly 1,029 #4 Posted December 28, 2012 Where Terry is talking about is under the tractor, the large plate it is part of the frame, and the trans bolts to it with 4 bolts, if they are loose, or the plate is cracked and the trans not lined up with the back of the frame it can cause problems. 1973Auto 80 #5 Posted December 28, 2012 Thanks kelly: I went to parts tree to find the plate in question (can't find my manual) for some reason I can only get the manual for a 16hp auto, hope the assembly is the same. Can you tell me what section it would be on. I copied and paste all of them from partstree. Thanks for the help.
