Leaking Eaton 1100 Transmission

Recommended Posts

wh5208speed

I have a really nice 96' 314-H that now has developed a pretty good leak from the hydro. How hard is it to replace all of the gaskets and seals? I have never cracked open a hydro.....kind of nervous about putting it back together properly.

Thanks,

Thad (Ohio)

Depends on where the leak is. A leak at the axle seals can be repaired with the wheel hubs removed and the transaxle still on the tractor.

A leak on the transaxle gasket where the case halves join requires trans removal and case split. Leaks at hydraulic fittings may only require tightening the fitting.

Clean the trans area thoroughly, pinpoint the leak and go from there. A little effort cleaning and accurately sourcing the leak can make a big difference in the time needed to resolve the problem.

Very seldom a transmission will leak where the two halves come together. It's usually somewhere else. Chasing a leak is darn near impossible without cleaning it as Save Old Iron pointed out. A little oil can go along way into making you think you have a major leak. Like said earlier get it cleaned up and keep a look out for where it's coming from. May take a couple of cleanings to pin point it. I am not saying that it can't be coming from the transmission halves but it very unlikely.
