Tie Rod Replacement on GT14

When I was out plowing today the tie rod came loose on the GT14. It looks like at one time the joint had wore out came apart, so somebody drilled a hole through the joint and then put a bolt all the way through it. it worked but the nut worked its way off. I fixed it by using a shoulder bolt a couple of nuts. But I would like to fit it correctly. Where is good place to buy these joints?? Its the joint that connects to the wheel spindle by the way. Thanks in advance.

Ryan, could you post a picture of the failed unit? I don't have any experience with the GT's, but I fab my own tie rods for 300/400-series machines out of readily available parts from McMaster-Carr, partly because some of the originals I had were worn, but mostly because I like a little toe-in on my tractors' front ends.

Heavy Duty Ball Joint Linkages

Able to stand up to frequent use, these linkages offer superior wear resistance. All are ball joint rod ends with the studs attached to simplify mounting. They have a chrome-plated, bearing-steel ball stud that’s machined to fit perfectly inside its housing, which is zinc-plated steel. Linkages are great for clutches, throttles, and shift control rods. Periodic lubrication may be required to keep them operating smoothly. Maximum ball swivel is approximately 50°. They are not load rated.

Linkages with grease fitting are easy to lubricate.

I went to the website. The only thing that is confusing is the male and female ends are the same size. The stock tie rod has a 3/8" stud and the female end is 1/2" Should I get the connector from McMaster Carr with both male and female ends that are 3/8"? Are they going to be as strong as the stock ones?

I never found one of those rods or ends for my 14. The one going back to the steering arm on box needs a way to hold itself up corectly. Never figured that one out, used diff generic joint with a shoulder bolt there. Rod now hangs down some, more than I like, but doesn't seem to bind in turns. If you find Mixed size ones, let us know.

On my C-120 I used female 1/2" heim joints with 1/2" hole. Used 1/2" to 3/8" flange bearings and spacers with 3/8" bolts to the steering arms. They move around some but it doesn't hurt the steering.
