today i found a wheelhorsencbr-32 sickle bar mower for rj tractors. the only problem is thst it is missing the rear idler pulley assembly. i have the manual for one but its not too descripive. im sure that someone out here has one. if so.. can u send me a pic of it? also does anyone know what im talking abojt or know where i might be able to find the pieces its missing? i wish i had pics to post.. it has the big pulley on the back of it just not the assembly that

holds the small idler pilley. thamks ralph

These are the only pics I have right now of the idler off of mine, I can probably get more pics and some measurements in a day or two. It shouldn't be too hard to make one.

Ralph, I'm not sure how rare they are, I know a few guys on here have them. As for what it's worth, I think one sold on ebay a few weeks ago. If I remember correctly it went for over $300 but it was complete except for the pedal. Finding one of the feet for it might hard to do. If you need some measurements let me know. Post a few pics of it if you get a chance.

I have two of these units. One I found at a local flea market (seller had no idea what it was nor the value) and the second one was previously restored which I found at the show in PA this year. IMO they are rare and you should buy them if you come across them at a decent price. I have some NOS knife blades if you are in a pinch as well. Not sure how rare they are tho. I had to fabricate the engaugement pedal on mine. Fireman and I were able to do it. I think those measurements are on here somewhere. I also posted a video here of the the sickle bar unit mounted on my 58 RJ cutting some high grass. Check it out..

Check with Charliesd250 for a skid shoe. He casted a couple reproductions for me and did some extras to sell. He may still have some.

I posted this pic before with measurements but can't find the old thread. This is not the correct spring. The original should be shorter and connect to that little nut which is welded to the mounting plate

thamks for the replies guys. your have helped me decide that i wamt to get the sickle bar mower. but the guy wanted $300 for it. that price was said before him and i looked at it and realized it was missing pieces. he has a bunch of stuff at his house in which i would like to get. would i be dumb to trade him my 1958 bolens ride a matic for the sickle mower and some wheel weights(either front or back wheelhorse weights)? i have never had to fabricate anythimg before so i dont really know what im getting into or how much it will cost. so... is that a good trade? thanls again....... ralph

As stated above, the parts for these sicle bars are not hard to fabricate. The small pulley in the pic above is a standard RJ mower deck pulley. At $300 it may be on the high side IMO only because it is missing a couple parts. Complete and clean units can range from $100 to $350.

I loaned my entire pedal engagement to a guy in RI so he could copy it and make his own. Perhaps he might be willing to make another one if you do buy the sickle bar or I can get you complete measurements when he sends it back. Either way we can help you get one together.

Check all of the bearings/bushings for slop.

Ken go here to view your post about the front mount sickle bars for the 701, post your questions there, but there is little to no info on that sickle bar, I know I have one.

so here an update on my aquiring the sickle bar mower. the guy i was supposed to trade with said hed rather have cash than a trade. so i dropped the price of my bolens from $450 and sold my bolens for $300 with the intention of buying the sickle bar for $275. only to come to find out that one of the guys employee sold the sickle bar out from under me. so hear i sit with $300 and no sickle bar:( i know i could have got alot more for my bolens ride a matic but dropped the price to sell it quick just to get the sickle bar. is there anyone out there in a relatively close distacne to central pa that has a sickle mower they would be willing to part with. or does anyone know anyone that has one theynmay be willing to sell? please message me and let me know if u do. thanks ralph

That sucks, but I know how you feel, I not long ago was going to buy a tractor and sent measages as soon as it went up for sale only to hear later someone after me had bought it.
