NF-Tinman 2 #1 Posted November 7, 2012 I have a rear seal leaking on the rear axle of my 1992 520H Wheelhorse. I want to remove the entire rear end from the tractor and replace all the seals, since I have to do one i may as well do them all. Can some one out there lend me a little guidance or advise to make this job a little easier, or is it just as well to leave the entire rear end in place and replace the seals that way? If so what is the best way to go about replacing the seals? Thanks in advance.
Trouty56 567 #2 Posted November 7, 2012 Personally since you don't have to remove the tranny to replace the axle seal I would only replace the one that leaks. It is a quick job. I don't know what other seals there are but unless you have to remove the tranny on a hydro I think you best leave it alone. There are a few how-to's if you search a little.....get the hub off......pick the seal out..... emery cloth the axle to remove barbs and smooth the surface......clean the axle/seat area.......tape the axle from the inside out......oil it up good and slide the new seal on......tap in place with an appropriately sized PVC pipe. This is just a summary.
Kelly 1,029 #3 Posted November 7, 2012 I would replace the axle seals, both sides and leave the rest alone, not very often the other seals leak on the Eaton 1100

chex313 123 #11 Posted May 16, 2020 (edited) Thanks for the replies, I think I have everything I need to get it out. Just want to have the right part before I pull the hub...I am not in any hurry, wanted to do this while I was waiting on other parts. I retire in June and finally have time for a spare project. Plus socializing in tractor forums is about the only socializing i am doing right now... Edited May 16, 2020 by chex313
