Starter Cleaning

Recommended Posts

Do you have any tips or tricks to hold the four starter brushes in place to assemble the Kohler starter? I saw a cute tool on U Tube but don't have one of those. Over the years I've used paper clips, little metal pieces etc. but haven't figured this one out yet. Also , what do you use to clean the innards with? Thanks! ....krazy_horse

I've used popsicle sticks and rubber bands to hold them in place. Put one each over two of the brushes and one on the back side and hold with the rubber bands and repeat for the other two brushes. When I clean the insides I use crc lectra-motive electric parts cleaner. Hope this helps. Stewart

Brake parts cleaner works well. Electrical contact cleaners are probably a little safer though.
