Wishin4a416 2,191 #1 Posted October 20, 2012 I started on the 416 parts tractor today. I am going to change the seals in the rearend and paint and put it on the shelf or make a Winter project out of the tractor. Undecided as of now because I have no motor and 2 kids in school $$$$. As read here the hubs are either gallded on or loose. Well I was 50/50 so I took the loose hub off first and then used it to pull the other hub. I got that tip here. Thanks!!! Uhh, my hands are sore. I had to pull it a little at a time with the small bolts as I didnt have a socket big enough to put on the air gun for the 3/4 inch bolt that I used. But there off now and the axles cleaned up. One question tho, My right axle has a straight key and my left has a half moon key. Is this normal? Thanks again!!! My research here really helped from all the knowledge shared. sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted October 21, 2012 . One question tho, My right axle has a straight key and my left has a half moon key. Is this normal? I've only ever seen half moon (Woodruff) keys in axle shafts. What does the seat look like in the axle? Is it machined for a half-moon key?

Odd aint it?
pfrederi 17,885 #4 Posted October 21, 2012 Look around the axle to see if it might have been repaired at one time by welding the old key way closed, turning it on a lathe to true it up, then cutting a new key way. The machine shop may have cut a straight keyway instead of a woodruff.
Kelly 1,029 #5 Posted October 21, 2012 I've had a few axles here that had straight keys in them, not sure what tractor they were on right now, might have been on hydros, but the norm is woodruff keys.
