blackdogfarm 0 #1 Posted October 20, 2012 I am a new owner of a D180 I just attached the Tiller and noticed the PTO shaft does not seem to have a way to stay fixed to the tractor. I must be missing a piece. Does anyone know what the piece is called or the part number? Please bear with me as I am very new and have a lot to learn to pass on.
otrelwood 32 #2 Posted October 20, 2012 that collar on the hub on the tractor part of the shaft slides back to hold those balls in the grove on the pto male part of the shaft so it wont slide out if its stuck spray it down with wd40 -pb blaster tap lightly with a hammer to get it to slide back and forth and have fun

Looking at the last pic of the three, you might actually have an 18 auto and not a D180. Pretty much the same tractor with just minor differences. Looks good! blackdogfarm 0 #5 Posted October 20, 2012 HAHA i feel dumb the collar just slides over to hold it in place! gosh golly! thanks Yes its a automatic 18 what is the difference? I found out it runs the pto at 2000rpm... I would LOVE to find a snowblower to run on the back just like the tiller. Headed out right now to see what i can till up !! :greetings-clappingyellow:
blackdogfarm 0 #6 Posted October 20, 2012 ok im back the tiller seemed to spin fine took it out to the garden and dropped the tiller slowly and soon as it touched the ground it stopped. CHecked under the hood and the engine runs fine driving the transmission. . . but out the front of the engine where the pto comes out it just does not seem to have any power. . . almost like a pin is sheered? What has happened now? Maybe I should post under another topic. . .
1maidenfan 202 #7 Posted October 20, 2012 No No keep it going right here. Need to go take some pix of the front with the grill off so we can see the PTO pulley and belt. Also try running it witht the tiller up off the ground to make sure it is still turning at the tiller. Might be something with he tiller not the pto. Take pix
KC9KAS 4,741 #8 Posted October 20, 2012 Welcome to Red Square! Is the PTO belt tight enough that it isn't slipping?
blackdogfarm 0 #9 Posted October 20, 2012 ok be right back It was all turning Seemed to be turning slow to me. . . but I have never seen one running before. Soon as it touched the ground it stopped , the PTO stopped, THe engine goes but the PTO does not seem to be turning. Ill take pictures be right back.... 5 min

I found out it runs the pto at 2000rpm... I would LOVE to find a snowblower to run on the back just like the tiller. Headed out right now to see what i can till up !! Not much at all! The 18 auto was wheel horses first step up to a larger tractor, kinda, there was a C195 that was close in size. Any way. For the most part all parts from a D 160,180,200 and the 18 auto are interchangeable, there are some that are not but few. These are monster tractors and will do just about anything you could need to do with it.

blackdogfarm 0 #12 Posted October 20, 2012 ok took some pictures
1maidenfan 202 #13 Posted October 20, 2012 Every thing looks correct Lets try engageing the pto (engine off) and try turning the pto shaft or pulley by hand. Like said before it could just be a loose belt, although from the pix it doesnt look that way. Back on the sliding collar , there is a drift pin that holds it on the shaft although I believe it is splined on the shaft. Quit possible that the pulley is stripped as it is splined onto the shaft also. Keep us informed.
blackdogfarm 0 #14 Posted October 20, 2012 that adjustment rod on the PTO seems to be loose I tightened it up but now it is barely onto the threds , it is at its max can not be pushed any further I got it to spin the PTO agian with sparks between the plates. . . . should I go try to till again? 1maidenfan 202 #15 Posted October 20, 2012 I would say NO ! Sounds like the clutch disk material is gone, there should NOT be any sparks!!! Need to look at the pto itself to see if the material is missing. Here are some pix of what to look for. You are looking for a thin layer of material between the outsides of the double pulley. blackdogfarm 0 #16 Posted October 20, 2012 yeah I dont think there is any material...... can I get new material? or do I need a whole new clutch pully system? THe adjustment rod is adjusted to its max to get the PTO to engage. If there are new plates between the pullys then the adjustment would be more on the other end right. 1maidenfan 202 #17 Posted October 20, 2012 Correct with the added material it will. Yes you can replace the material and there are some post on here about how to do that. I would NOT use it till you get it replaced, the material is cheap compaired to the whole clutch assy. Might check ebay or possibly one of the members here for a pto clutch, someone might have an extra.
blackdogfarm 0 #18 Posted October 20, 2012 do you know what it is called exactly? Keep doing searches and only get pto stuff for the C120s

otrelwood 32 #24 Posted October 20, 2012 i dont know where you are located but we have a place in south bend in. called south bend clutch that will reface that for you. o On the differences on a d 180 and an 18 auto the auto had either 15 or 16 in tires on the rear as opposed to the 180's 12s also the 18 auto i had ,had a shorter grill housing and the grill had 6 bars as the rest have
