Suburban Pully Guard

Recommended Posts

krazy_horse

My repo pully guard arrived today in the mail. I was looking and thinking what hardware would be needed to install on a 1960/550 Suburban. I think studs screwed into the engine with double nuts then the guard with washers and nuts to hold it on. Am I on the right track? Is there a better way? Thanks!! , Jim

That will work....Or, you can get the right sized bolts with the right sized spacers and eliminate the need for studs and nuts. It'll look much cleaner and that is the way it was originally.

Mine are attached using spacers which I think is how it came from the factory.

Spacers sound like a great idea but to save a lot of trial and error, how long should they be? I have some tubeing that I think will work great and I would like to cut them tomorrow. Thanks all!

I have a set of RJ spacers which may be the same as the Suburban... but like Ken I will have to pull them out tonight.

You can use your idea of studs and nuts to to get the correct length for the spacers. Adjust the nuts on the studs until the belt guard is just short of touching the pulleys and then measure the distance to get the spacer length. This will custom fit them to YOUR tractor. Small variations in where the engine is mounted on the frame and where the pulleys are on the shafts can cause the belt guard to rub. That's why there are many guards out there that have been worn completely through because of rubbing the pulleys.

Yea, wallfish, I got to thinking about this after I made the post. I have studs and nuts so I can get the length correct, use my tube cutter for my spacers then off to get the correct bolts. I tend to make simple things hard. Thanks, Guys krazy_horse I for got to add if you plan to buy a repo cover there is some difference, Jake put an image of a cover with three mounting holes. My tractor with the Techy H-60 has two, just something to keep in mind.
