Wheel-N-It 2,968 #26 Posted February 12, 2013 Nice trailer, and a good price too especially with the extra stuff inside.
fireman 1,021 #27 Posted March 15, 2013 I finally got around to working on my own trailer getting it ready for the season. I bought all new LED clearance lights and wiring for it and started replacing all of that. I also wanted to convert the swinging door to a ramp door. I bought the steel tubing the other day and started fabricating it today. Got the steel all welded up with the exception of some cats to go between the bars to make it a little more rigid. It's gonna get 1" wood to fill in between the metal bars, then 1/8" wood and the original sheet of metal on the outside and 3/8 wood on the inside. I am using the original aluminum edging that was on the oem door to trim it out.
chris11 184 #28 Posted March 15, 2013 Are you going to paint it RED??????
fireman 1,021 #29 Posted March 15, 2013 Heck NO. It's gonna stay white. I'm gonna find someone who knows how to use an orbital buffer and the compounds and get the original paint to shine. I bought a tongue box for it and just about ready to buy some new aluminum rims.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #30 Posted March 15, 2013 Jeff, Looks very good for sure. I am the guy that knows how to use the buffer (at least the closest lol).

Sparky-(Admin) 21,294 #32 Posted March 16, 2013 Jeff , you have to have the graphics on there, you know the one LOL I hope you dont mean a green and yellow graphic ? Mike.............
fireman 1,021 #33 Posted March 16, 2013 Nothing wrong with Green and Yellow !!! Unfortunately it won't matter for the show. I wont be there this year. My sons school actually has a graduation from 8th grade and my wife will not let me miss it. It's on the same Friday as the big show . It's just ridiculous, we never had graduation from middle school when I grew up! But no, no stickers or anything like that. I don't want to "advertise" what may or may not be in the trailer. Makes a great easier target for thieves!
fireman 1,021 #34 Posted March 16, 2013 Got the cats welded in place. That's it's for the welding till I get the hinges. Monday when I get out of work I will pick up the wood I need to finish it off. Now just to decide what type of hinges I want to use.
fireman 1,021 #35 Posted March 25, 2013 So I added the 3/8" plywood and it's a little thin for the load surface but that's what I have to work with to use the existing aluminum outside edging. So I added so more metal to strengthen it up. Once it's all together I think I will still add another 1/4" over the top of the 3/8". I probably should of just used 5/8" and routed the edges. Who knows, maybe I will still do that.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #36 Posted March 25, 2013 Jeff- That looks like you should we just fine. I assume it is pretty heavy tho. I added two 70lbs garage door springs to mine and it does a nice job taking off the stress of pickng it up.
fireman 1,021 #37 Posted March 25, 2013 It still only weights about 50lbs!
fireman 1,021 #38 Posted March 28, 2013 Spent this morning getting the new ramp/door ready for installation. The ramp is done with the exception of the outer skin which I have left off so I can run the new wiring for the lights and make any last minutes adjustments. Just have to order another door latch for the other side and two new brake/turn lights and it should be set to go. The ramp/door is now installed. It closes and latches great. stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #39 Posted March 28, 2013 Hurry up Jeff! Why is it taking so long (lol) ! Looks very good!
fireman 1,021 #40 Posted March 29, 2013 You can't rush perfection!!! I decided I didn't want to add another sheet of plywood so back to the Depot and got a 3/4" BC Sanded piece of plywood and routed the edges down so they would fit into the aluminum edging. When the rear skin goes on this thing will look better and be stronger then a factory one. When I welded in the long tubing I spaced them out so that one set is the same width as the Senior and another the same as an Junior. With the 3/4 plywood it's not going anywhere. Ken B 3,164 #43 Posted March 29, 2013 Awesome work Jeff! Are you going to pimp the inside out like Steve?
fireman 1,021 #44 Posted March 30, 2013 Seeing as it's only a 5X8 and not full height, I don't think so. I'm going to epoxy the trailer and ramp floors, add led lighting inside to make it look like daylight and maybe some of the vertical track to be able to add shelves. I have the same tongue box that Steve does so that going on too.
fireman 1,021 #45 Posted April 7, 2013 So between yesterday at work and 6 hours today, I finished up the lights. All brand new LED clearance and brake/turn lights. I actually replaced every bit of the wiring right up to and including the plug. Then proceeded to remove the old chemical soaked floors. Now just to replace the wood and the majority of the work will be finished. I raised the spare tire mount up higher so I could mount the tongue box.
