peterson9934 4 #1 Posted October 9, 2012 I want to replace the exhaust and muffler on my C-145 (has a 17hp kohler). It has at least 1 leak. I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet where I can find a new one. It doesn't have to look like the one I have now. I like the "stacks" but would settle for one just out to the side. Is threaded pipe an option for this motor? Just looking for suggestions.
JackC 617 #2 Posted October 10, 2012 I would try epoxy to patch the leak until I could find replacements. The C-175 exhaust pipe and muffler come up on eBay every so often. Joe's Outdoor Power and other tractor bone yards may have replacements. Keeping it original has appeal to collectors and you won't run into any issues because everything will fit. I have spares but I am keeping them because I have 4 C-175s. The exhaust from a 417A may also fit if you prefer the muffler on the right side.
SousaKerry 502 #3 Posted October 10, 2012 The 17 I have on my C-125 came from a simplicity, I reused the muffler that it came with, which was mounted where your collector pipe is. I had to move the outlet and alter the sheetmetal a bit but it works and sounds mean!! I'll take a picture of it when I get home tonight.

smoreau 658 #6 Posted October 11, 2012 417 muffler should work just fine for you. Here is one that is on my 520 with a kohler 18 magnum in it. and this is a

peterson9934 4 #9 Posted October 11, 2012 so a muffler from a 417 will fit a Kohler KT17S? There is a 417 muffler on ebay.
smoreau 658 #10 Posted October 11, 2012 Should fit just fine. It is all one piece from the heads to the muffler tip. It should have the guard that wraps around the muffler to protect the hood, I made the one in the above pics for my 520 project with the magnum 18 in it. peterson9934 4 #11 Posted October 11, 2012 Thanks for the info. I'll look in to that 417 muffler. I still have the guards for mine, I just took them off for the picture.
pfrederi 17,951 #12 Posted October 11, 2012 I tried to put the nice chrome muffler from a a 417 on a C-175 ... would not clear the edge of the hood. (C series hoods are different than the 400s) Had to make adapter plates to raise the front of the hood. Also I had to swap out the PTO hoop with one from a 400 series as the C series hoop hit the muffler. Also changed the engine tins on the PTO end of the motor. Sounds nice but I think now that I picked up a C175 muffler I may change it back,
