Herbiegrizz 1 #1 Posted October 3, 2012 New to the Wh garden tractors..I bought a RJ 58 from what everyone tells me.Ive had two collectors to tell me if was indeed this but one says my deck is wrong..It has a square deck and the covers over the gears are square, The tranny doesnt have any numbers on it. One of the guys says its an early 58 with the RJ 35 deck.I dont know. The collector that (knows it all) offered me 5 times the money that I paid for it.My thought is why offer that much for something that in his mind isnt right. I do have pics on my phone but cant get them to computer. The little tractor is neat and I really dont think the guy I bought it from knew what he had..It is in very good shape and I wish I could post pics but I cant.I could send pics by my phone if someone wants to see..Thanks PS I have 6 round fender john deeres and the old original cubs and I do pullers from cubs but this little tractor would have to be my pick of all.It starts and runs and is drivable but man is it small

wallfish 16,964 #4 Posted October 3, 2012 I believe the early 58s used the RJ35 decks along with the front tires and rims so you have the correct deck in my opinion, if indeed you have an early production 58. It really doesn't matter what deck it is anyway.
Herbiegrizz 1 #5 Posted October 3, 2012 This is a new world to me..Im trying to read and learn as much as I can..I appreciate the help. I sent amcrules a couple of pics so maybe he can post them and then you guys can let me know if its correct. Im really excited to have found this and to own a part of the wheel horse history. Like I stated earlier.I have round fender deeres and the older cubs but this little thing sure does draw attention.

VinsRJ 721 #7 Posted October 4, 2012 Looks like a nice RJ. The early versions of the RJ58 could of had the square gear case mower decks.
Jake Kuhn 1,554 #8 Posted October 4, 2012 Thats a very nice one! Those guards are hard to find still on the tractor! Jake
Ken B 3,164 #9 Posted October 4, 2012 What a lucky find. Ya don't come across such nice complete ones like that one is very often.
wallfish 16,964 #10 Posted October 4, 2012 Looks like a nice, complete machine. Rear fenders were an option for the 58 so we see many without them.

Herbiegrizz 1 #12 Posted October 4, 2012 Thanks guys. Thats exactly the way it looked when I bought it..I know the throttle should be a lever by looking at other photos. Do you guys see anything else that is wrong. It will start on the first pull. The recoil was not free when I bought it.Thats why its on the seat.Nothing but a little tlc and wd -40 and it worked like a charm. Thanks again for the comments.
