Fordiesel69 263 #1 Posted October 1, 2012 It seems kohler has gone the china route on the k series points. They do not last long for me like the old ones did. The build quality is clearly seen on the old ones as being superior. Any idea where to get good ones, even aftermarket if needed?
VinsRJ 723 #2 Posted October 1, 2012 Have you been using STENS points? Have you tried your local NAPA, I know the sell Kohler parts, may have a different manufacture for you.
Fordiesel69 263 #3 Posted October 1, 2012 I have been using only genuine. I always saved the old ones and they look a lot more robust. They were just worn out.
rmaynard 15,822 #4 Posted October 1, 2012 I now use the aftermarket points from NAPA. I think they are made by Echlin. I too found that the new Kohler brand points (made in Mexico) are totally inferior.
Jim_M 178 #5 Posted October 1, 2012 I agree, NAPA points are much better than the new Kohler points.

Martin 2,133 #10 Posted October 2, 2012 thanks bob, i think i might try a set. ive been a little disappointed with new kohler parts lately, long live nos parts.......
JC 1965 1,532 #11 Posted October 2, 2012 If you use the points saver you won't have to buy any more points. I haven't bought points for years and my points still look brand new and my tractor runs better since i installed the points saver. :hide:

Me too- just about all of the Kohler branded replacement parts are foreign sourced now- China, Mexico, Brazil. Measure carefully before installing, I notice internal engine parts have been on the small side of tolerances. -Mark-
JamesBe1 82 #13 Posted October 3, 2012 I like this points saver idea, and I think I will try it. Anybody know of all the points are the same across the K-series? I have a K482. If I decide to use a pointsaver, I might as well replace the points at the same time.
JC 1965 1,532 #14 Posted October 3, 2012 I think all the points are all the same in the K series. David Kirk does recommend that you install a new set of points when you install the points saver. Hope this helps !! :thumbs2:
Buckshot 1 15 #15 Posted October 5, 2012 :) I have run Mr. Kirks, point saver for 4 yrs on my K-321. No more timing/points issues. Best thing I ever did for this K-321. :flags-usa:

AmalgamousProxy 2 #17 Posted October 6, 2012 I know points are original but when my points die I think I'm going to see if I can modify an automotive electronic points eliminator to fit. Sorry purists...

Sorry purists... Brian Miller sells a plate to adapt Chevy V8 points to the Kohler engines, you set the points with an allen wrench. I havent tried this setup but hope to in the near future. krazy_horse
