My original pepper shaker pipe was so badly rusted there were no threads left to thread into the freshly chased block... so I had to do something.  That whole "it was laying around the shop" budget really helped with that one!

Here is the one I made for my 312-8 afer the original rusted through.

I made it from stainless & copied the original down to the internal volume, # of holes in the tubes etc because it is fitted with the Walbro non adjustable carb, but then bought a Kohler carb from Joe's outdoor power, it is very quiet  :UK:

Here is my updated stack. I recently cut it down from 11inches to 6.5 inches. I felt it was to quite before and I like the looks of it shorter.

post-9096-0-98656000-1415122759.jpgI installed the typical Cub Cadet muffler on my 857 but what is different is how I supported it.  Instead of a 1" 90, I used a tee that is 1" x 1" x 1/2". Then I screwed in a 1/2" plug and taped a 3/8" hole in it so I could add 2 flat iron braces that go from the bottom of the tee to 2 exsiting 3/8" threaded holes in the block. I also like to cover the black pipe with chrome pipe that is used for kitchen and bathroom sink drains.

Good morning boys—time to resurrect a thread.  Unfortunately this one has A LOT of the old 3rd party hosting of pics, it is amazing to me how much that has changed in the last 5 years or so for the better.

Anyway, everyone on here who knows me knows that I’m a dyed in the wool Plow Dog (meaning I love furrow plowing with GT’s) and so on a plow mule (a GT setup for furrow plowing) nothing looks cooler than a big set of AG’s on the back, Tri ribs on the front, and a vertical stack beside the hood (although vertical stacks look cool on non plow mule tractors too:handgestures-thumbupright:).

Here’s just a couple of ours...

This is my dad’s 875 that we call the Iron Horse—he has owned it for 43 years and he installed this IH farmall Cub stack when he restored it the first time in 1979.  It is an authentic IH product and has been on the tractor nearly my whole life. I love the sound every time I hear it—takes me back to cutting lawn and working the ground and with it in the 1980’s.

Also Dad’s tractor. His 953 that we call Clyde.  I’m not sure if the origin (maybe @Shynon can chime in) but it is a mellow sound and looks cool with the rain flapper!

My son Zach’s GT14. We call it Blackbeard.  It has a Cub Cadet muffler off of an early 1970’s Cub.  I cut off the upper bracket and we painted it Black at Zach’s request.  Sounds mellow as well and have him the vertical stack he wanted soooo bad.

I want to post my Local Circle buddies vertical stack tractors so bad right now but I’ll let them do that if they choose.

It's a cub cadet muffler from Tulsa engine warehouse, just cut the tip straight and cut of the bracket. Yes I agree I like the sound @WHX17 has one on the 702 also. IMO the height is correct for a garden tractor.

I made this stack from a piece of 2 1/2" pipe with a turn out. Although it looks like a strait pipe, I made a perforated baffle for the inside of it. I kept it a little taller in order to keep the exhaust out of my face. It has a nice deep sound but is just a little loader than I had wished for.

Here ya go...

A pair of Bud's mufflers, custom tig welded piping/manifold flanges made to get them straight to each other. Bit of a healthy bark when the governor opens, but they work great.

Here's the final product, painted with VHT header paint and a set of rain caps to boot - they help deflect the exhaust fumes away from me pretty well so far.

Finally got the stack installed, getting that threaded pipe out of the head needed a little persuasion but all went well, and it looks fantastic thanks to Jim Kemp!

Ok guys seen many pics of both original and some with stacks. My question is Is a stack quiter or is it just for looks. Just wondering.

I am in the process of restoring a 72 Raider 8 and decided I would beef it up a bit with a custom stack. Currently the motor is out of the tractor and am waiting for a rod, piston, cam shaft and bearing set. Motor was in total self destruct mode when the previous owner didn't check the oil 🙄🤦🏼‍♂️ So I made this stainless stack out of sch 5, 2 inch pipe and reduced to 1". Decided I didn't like to looks of threaded pipe so I found a couple valve parts to act as the flanges, and am going to weld the other flange to a threaded nipple and screw into the engine block. Let me know what you think! Trying to decide if I should leave it flat, mitre it or weld a turnout on it!
      Jake

Also, I'm going to hold out for now until I can hear it run straight piped, but considering rolling a stainless screen down to 1" and packing gap between the stack and the screen with muffler packing. Has anyone else ever done this? Looking for ideas and comments are welcome!

What started out as a simple task of moving my 6-1/2' x 12' utility trailer to unload it's contents back into the Shed Repair Project after building a new floor turned out to be a really bad day . I figured the weight of the trailer and it's load was probably around 2,500lbs or more and the big D-180 should be able to handle it . Used the 3pt hitch and an adapter to lift the trailer tongue and off I went...until I got to the end of the north drive and the pump coupling on the hydro failed - badly . In hindsight - the trailer probably weighed closer to 4,000lbs the way it felt behind the truck ...

Now , the trailer had to be taken off the tractor and put on it's jack ....which didn't work out too well loaded that heavily . Since the trailer was built with 2x3 angle iron on the tongue it decided to fold itself into a pretzel - despite the wheels being blocked tight so it couldn't move . It fell over and I had to use the HI-Lift to get it off the ground . The sight of the trailer falling over in the rear view camera on the Dodge is still well embedded in my memory - I knew that was going to be another large project .

The coupling had an earlier repair from last winter's failure - so a pto pin was driven through the hole to get it out back to my work area to be fixed later . It made the short trip , but just barely and the tow valve was frozen tightly . As it turned out , the damage to the D was a much bigger issue..and cost 3 times as much in total .

The pic doesn't do the damage any justice - that entire tongue was bent badly -

Sand blasted , new tongue built and waiting for paint -

Painted , as it sits now awaiting the lights , wiring and re-install the floor decking .

All the while - got more work done on the D's pump problem . Found a great used pump , as well as a spare coupling in good shape . After a lot of machine work ($$$) we came up with a solution and everything was back together...

After all this I found that both the original mufflers were completely shot and falling apart - so another project ...

Bought a pair of 180* mandrel bends , two cone transitions and a pair of @jimkemp 8" mufflers (very nice, btw) . Fabricated the flanges for the engine's exhaust ports , as well as the pipes for the stacks -

Spent a lot of time rolling the engine over on the starter to slowly prime the pump back up and finally , after several months - fired Big Ugly to test the exhaust before painting the stacks . No leaks from the hydro thanks to some new o-rings and backer rings from @pfrederi on the hydro manifold , that was a big relief .

A bit shocked at the sound of the big opposed twin - somewhat like a Harley running on the choke or something - but overall not obnoxious or too loud ....

      D180 startup.mp4

If you don't want to wait for the MP4 to load - here's the YouTube link -

I don't think the camera's microphone will show the sound too well , but so far I like it . Took a ride around the block , nice having this beast back up and running , finally . Now to finish that dumb trailer....pretty much wasted nearly the whole summer getting all of this done plus the hours at work . I'm about ready for a break but need to get ready for winter .

      Hi all!

I'm a new member from Sweden taken the first ride of the year just yesterday. I have a Commando 7 which I am upgrading in a very slow pace to a Commando 8 buying one piece at the time as they pop up.

I've just finished a transmission overhaul, replacing wheel axles, seals and bearings. Thanks to Terry M for supplying the axles, I could not have found them in Europe.

Currently the seat is at the upholsterers. I've got a seat cover with slight damages from Fun Engineer, thank you very much. The cover will be used as is or as a template, it is not decided yet.

Also, I have new bolted front wheels laying around waiting for mounting, that might be the next thing done to this horse.

      Best regards,
      Johan
