A new horse in the stable this morning

Recommended Posts

rmaynard

I didn't want to do another restoration this winter, but when this one followed me home, I couldn't resist. Since the featured tractors at the Wheel Horse Collectors Club show next year are the 1961's, this 701 will have to be there.

Any plans yet on the dash and throttle modification? Looks like a good one though. Mike

Ordering a new dash panel from Glen, and checking into throttle cable availability.

It just need a good wash and wax, it will be just like all the other restored tractors if you give it a redo.

I think the B-100 addiction was broken when I bought the Commando. So now I guess I'm officially in the "hood"

There is quite a bit more rust and other minor defects than what meets the eye in those pictures. The previous owner made a custom dash, and drilled holes in various places for "unauthorized" accessories. There is a problem with the steering, transmission seals are leaking, generator belt cover has a mysterious hole drilled into it, and the lift cable is frayed. So since it's going to be in many pieces soon, I am inclined to proceed with a total restoration. Like my B-100 and Commando 8, it's only going to go to shows.

Nice find for sure. The work you do is great, and I'm sure this one will be no different. :handgestures-thumbupright:

I vote for fixing it and leaving it orig. BUT if your going to restore one that looks like a great starting point.

Too late Steve! I bet Bob has that sucker all taken down in a pile of parts already! I think we can all rest easy though, she is in capable hands. We have all seen Bob's work, he is going to do it right.

Ken, you are right. My grandson Ryan came over to spend the day yesterday. I had taken the hood off to take pictures of the bottom bracket, and Ryan decided to go out and take a look at the my new acquisition. By the time I got out there, he had gotten his tools, and well...a picture is worth a thousand words...

With a little help from me, by the time he left last night, it was down to the frame.

I guess the decision has been made.
