d160 trans fluid?

Have been searching and cannot definitive answer of which trans fluid and filling/checking procedure for a 1980 d160 auto hydrostatic trans. any help is appreciated

You machine may have had Dexron ATF or 10w-30 motor oil. Do not mix them. Dexron would be cherry red, motor oil sort of tan. Should be able to tell by wiping the dipstick on a white paper towel. You can switch fluids but you have to completely flush the system. I am do not see any compelling reason to go to the bother and expense of a change over.

Change fluid is done by removing the 1/4" allen head plug on the bottom of the transaxle. System supposedly holds over 5 qts but on a drain and fill you will not use that much as some stays in the lines pump and cylinders.

Change the filter and use a real Toro filter.
