Finally "finished" my 552

Bought this 552 from Les Henry last fall. Originally I was planning a full restoration,but the more I looked at it the more I like the way it looked original.

Soooo, I decided to wet sand and clear coat the whole thing and do redo the wheels & tires

Not sure what it was, but I liked the original look, so here we go . . .

Miller Tire paint . . . stuff works great, but I suspect based on consistency/smell/etc. you can do like rmaynard said and use latex paint with the same results.

That is how I have been doing most of mine lately that are clean originals. Clean them up, paint wheels/tires and seat and oil them down. Well preserved @@!

Looks like a really nice horse, great job!

BTW, Steve... Zeek said "wet sand and clear coat", not "oiled up"... LOL!

close enough... same look for sure. This weekend one of the tractors was coated with linseed oil.... :omg:

Ain't nothing wrong with that! I think it looks great. Can't wait until we all get together again over burgers, brats, corn on the cob, and tractors, and I can see it in person.

I Just love the look of that tractor, and the best thing about it is

that is the only one in the world that looks like that

keep it original

Oh and by the way Mrs Zeek looks Fab driving on the tractor too , youre a lucky man

That looks very nice! It looks great with its original old clothes on. I also like leaving tractors alone if they aren't to far rusted and busted. I have used regular old latex semi gloss and satin paint on some of my tires with the same results as the Miller tire paint.

I tried oil initially, but I couldn't get it to stay that way, plus I kept gettin my clothes dirty whenever I got against it. Thought I would try this as an alternative. So far I like it for the "clean" factor.

Thanks! I know it has an evil Techy on it, but it runs good, no smoke or knocks so I'm happy. Plus my wife believes a Techy is an extra high "tech" option motor that I got a heck of a deal on :popcorn:

      I just put a 'Stens' universal ignition module on my SB-421.
      Its finally showing a spark, but it's faint.
      Ohmed out the mag and found it's shot (42,000 ohms).
      I guessing the points/coil and mag went at once?

      Since it appears the universal is working, i'm looking for a magneto for this model, if anybody has/knows of one.

      Since I bought two universals, I'm looking to attempt to see if one will work on my 552/H55 engine.

      Has anyone done this on the diode system yet?

      I have a Tecumseh electric start engine HH 60  105125J    ser. 4342D that I am attempting to put in a 552.   I don't know what the engine came from ... bought it at a flea market.    I'm trying to figure out how to wire it.   There is a quick connector with 2 wires .... one comes from stator the other goes to coil.  Do I need a voltage regulator?  Amp or volt gauge?  I plan on using a key switch and a starter button as I believe that's what it originally had.  Any help would be appreciated

      My GF found this for sale while travelling and it is 160 miles from me so I can't go and look at it till saturday. From youtube videos I have watched I think it is a 552. The owner bought it at a fleamarket last year and has been using it as yard art since then. He says it doesn't steer(you turn the steering wheel and the wheels don't move) and the engine doesn't run(he has never tried to start it since he has owned it. From the pictures can you guys tell what it is and what should I be looking for when I go see it(any problems with these models or parts it should have? He is also asking $300 obo so what would you guys offer knowing it needs a total restoration and may be missing parts? I don't know wheelhorse lawnmowers at all but I love the look of them and want to own and restore one.
