Newbie looking for a rider for my son and I to work on.

Just joined group today while researching some Craigslist finds.

I am located in Southern Indiana and am looking for a project I can work on and my son can enjoy.

He's a little young now, but I figured by the time I was done with the project (if ever done), that he would be ready to ride around our farm.

I am considering a basket case 1958 RJ58 (serial 1768).

Missing belt cover and front right wheel.

Hood is dented in places and in generally rough condition.

Asking price is $240 and it is 2 hours away (one way).

Will prob pass - but we'll see.

Thanks

jon

Yep - same tractor,I read that post before joining but failed to make the connection.

That prompted me to ask about the heat shield and belt guard.

A wealth of info on this site !

I'm sure the right one will pop up...but patience is not really my strong suit. ha

Just takes a little patience and they will find you before long. If you are going to buy one you really want the guard and heat shield or you have to get a repro or pay BIG $ if you can find an original. Good luck with finding one. ~ Jake

The heat shield is there - just not on the tractor.

He took most of it apart to clean it up.

Motor turns but will not get gas (per seller).

A little too rough for me.

I'd rather spend another $100 for something in better shape.

:WRS: Good to have you here! Father, and son projects are the best, and I hope you'll post pics when you find something.

I picked up the Louisville RJ-58 in the linked post above.

Now, to find rear tires and new front wheels and tires.

I'l bend up a belt guard and start stripping for paint.

It's a tractor, so it's an automatic winner.

He's a little too small for it (he's only 2), but that just means that I get to ride it as he co-pilots for a year or two.

I'm sure grandaddy will take him for some rides as well.

I posted picts in the other post:

Just need the belt guards and an exhaust cover.

I think we have a couple Harley exhaust shields laying around to use for that.

I'll get a picture of the hood progress this weekend.
