Tankman 3,518 #4 Posted September 1, 2012 The poly gas tank can be repaired. I've welded many a PE tank, tanks used for acids, gas, water, and many other chemicals. Best way for the average do-it-yourselfer? Use a soldering gun, melting along the seam (leak). Some welding shops carry PE (polyethylene) welding rod but, without it you can use a slice of any PE bottle (i.e.: used and washed a gal milk jug). http://www.usplastic...CFYNM4AodkDUAxA
rmaynard 15,408 #5 Posted September 1, 2012 In my experience, the tank seam is always breached in the area of the bottom hole where the grommet must make intimate contact. Unless you are very lucky, or very good, welding the seam in that area is next to impossible while still getting a complete seal..
Tankman 3,518 #6 Posted September 1, 2012 A PE bulkhead fitting, provided fits thru the gas cap, could be installed. The installed fitting can be bushed down to any size needed for the shutoff valve. That said, order one from eBay (fingers crossed). While waiting for delivery, try the soldering gun.

scifi4all 6 #9 Posted September 4, 2012 I have not tried this myself and obviously a fuel tank seam is not a kayak hole, but anything is possible. http://www.instructables.com/id/Fixing-a-plastic-polyethylene-kayak-with-a-hole-/
boovuc 1,090 #10 Posted September 4, 2012 I have used epoxy puttys on both metal and plastic tanks with good results. It's tough on a seam where you don't have a perfectly flat service though.
groundhog47 347 #11 Posted September 5, 2012 So far since 99 a patch at the grommet cutting it out and putting in a bulkhead 90 with rubber gasket has held but seam radiates out. Will try the epoxy type outside and keep biddin' on ebay. They have a couple that say for Raider that look to be correct size but appaer to have a moulded into tank nipple for fuel outlet, would one like that work. Wow on the kayak hole repair, that"s a REPAIR! Guess it might work. Would much rather try soldering iorn like Tankman than blowtorch, Ha. Thanks
Kelly 1,029 #12 Posted September 5, 2012 I have good gas tanks, I have new grommets and shut off valves also, I can also sell you some new fuel line with clamps to replace your old, and a new fuel filter, a complete fuel system overhaul in one stop, send me a PM. the old Raider style tank will fit but you will not have a shut off valve unless you put one in line, and many of them leak at the nipple or the nipple breaks off,
groundhog47 347 #13 Posted September 5, 2012 Kelly the one I looked at appaered to have been sawed or cut through the nipple also, I do have a sediment bowl with shutoff in line with new fuel line all the way. The c120 sat unused for 13 years, before that it sat about 10-15. You can prob imagine the issues that have popped up. It's back except for fuel seepage and drooling over all the WOW machines on here. Thanks>>groundhog47
