My new money pit.....

Recommended Posts

Sparky

So after 3 years without a boat I went and bought one this week. I have a seasonal camp in Massachusetts but will be moving the camper to a lake site in Connecticut next spring.....seemed only natural to have a boat and get a dock slip  since I'll be on a 529 acre lake.

Its a 16' Fisher Marsh Hawk mod-V with a 28hp Johnson on the back and a foot controlled trolling motor on the front all on a galvanized trailer. Seems to run fine, all the lites etc work and the floor is solid. It'll need a couple seats and a water pump in the motor ( for good measure) and thats it. Hopefully its not a big money pit like big boats can be.

I haven't had a fishing license in 3 years and am itching to get back into fishing. Even the wife said she'd like to try a bit of fishing!!

Mike,

That is a very nice little fishing set up. Once you do the PM on the engine you should be fine. I would install 2 new batteries as well. Looks very similar to my dad's boat I sold for his wife.

I like it! 16-ish footers with small engines are the perfect boats in my mind. Cheap, light, and efficient. And it doesn't take a 1-ton diesel to drag it around.

That's a pretty "special" Johnson on there. Those 20/25/28/30/35's are probably the most bullet proof power units ever made. Occasionally they'll eat powerpacks, but they are very tolerant to abuse and poor maintenance and will run for thousands of hours. Great motors.

We used up a '78 25-horse and replaced it with a used, resort rental '95 25-horse about 15 years ago. I think it still has the same water pump in it that came with it when we bought it :hide:

Congrats,

Finding it hard to believe that there are people who DON'T fish,

Steve

Dang! Thats hauling ass Russ!

Well after sitting at motor vehicles for two hours I was finaly able to register it. Got on the lake and with my GPS I'm hitting 24 mph with two people.

Not bad for a 28hp motor.

Of course my daughter had to take the wheel and go full tilt!
