Hydro lever

Recommended Posts

frogpond

Hi. I'm new to wheel horse and just bought a 1967 877. The forward and reverse lever will not stay where I set it. It centers up into neutral when i push the brake pedal. Just trying to move it to neutral by hand, I usually can not find the center or it goes to reverse or forward. What adjustment can be made to this or is it a problem bigger than an adjustment?

Thanks

kevin

Welcome to Red Square! The cam plate has 2 slide holders that may need to be tighter, or the cam plate may need to be replaced. They are available from your dealer or fleebay. Very come. Problem with the late 60's hydros or wheel-a-matic's In 69 wheel horse changed the design and fixed this issue.

Are parts available to convert my DCL to the one with the friction collar

and spring? And if so is there a write up about it somewhere here?

Thanks

It's been a while since I worked on one, but I believe the only modification needed to install the directional control lever (DCL) assembly from a 1968 - 1977~ish model is the drilling of a hole for the tab that keeps the shaft & cone from turning. As far as the parts to convert ~ If you can't find anything locally, contact Kelly here on the forum and/or post a "wanted" ad in the classifieds.

5996 is the Toro/WH part number for the cam - and I would replace it whether you convert the DCL or not. It is a wear item - and I also recommend keeping a spare on-hand. Install it "dry". Lubricating it will cause dirt/grit to stick to it and wear it / loosen it more quickly.
