Trans locked up

Recommended Posts

My c-160 auto has been dedicated to pulling a cart foro the summer due to hydraulic issues. I finnally fixed the hydraulics yesterday ( rebuilt cylinder). So i hooked up the dozer blade today and everything was working fine. I started to dig into the topsoil a little and the trans. Stopped, non forward no reverse nothing. I finally got it in gear again by rocking the tractor back and forth. I know very little about auto trans so I guess I need a starting point so I can try and diagnose the problem. Also ever since I've had this tractor after it has sat for a day or so when I first start it I have to rock the tractor back and forth slightly to get it in gear. After it warms up it's fine though. Hopefully these issues are simple fix but I have a feeling they're not.

Is the hydraulic lift still working when this happens? If so I would say your problem is NOT the hydraulic unit itself, possibly the hydraulic motor. Might want to raise the back wheels off the ground and see what it does with "no load" on it. Could possibly be in the transaxle.

No when the tractor trans. Locked up so did the hydraulics. I've replaced or rebuilt everything to do with the hydraulics, I'm afraid this problem is the transmission itself. I just don't know that much about the auto trans in order to troubleshoot.

if nothing works when this happens that leans towards the pump, could be a stuck valve but its not great news,

Are the pumps serviceable? I have a parts tractor that is the same model but I'd like to save it as a last resort

Is it a piston to piston or a hydrogear? Post a picture of the hydro motor (left side of the tractor so we can ID it)

The pumps are serviceable and their are videos on redsquare of other members fixing theirs.

I belive "coldone" has a great video of him repairing his.

Good luck.

The pump portion of a hydrogear is potentially fixable, but not the motor part. In a piston to piston both pump ans motor are serviceable.
