chesbaycruiser 83 #1 Posted August 21, 2012 I apologize if this has been covered before...I searched but didn't find it. I just rebuilt the carb (Khohler adjustable jet) on the K241 from my 1973 Model 10 and need to set the preliminary settings. This raises a question I've had before. All of the diagrams in the K-Series Service Manual show: 1.) Main Fuel Needle, 2.) Idle Fuel Needle and 3.) Idle Speed Screw. However, all the adjustment instructions refer to A.) Low Idle Adjustment and B.) High Idle Adjustment. I know I'm showing my ignorance here, but... ...I'm assuming that the Main Fuel Needle adjusts the "High Idle" and the Idle Fuel Needle adjusts the "Low Idle"? Can someone confirm this or set me straight? Many Thanks!!!
rmaynard 15,739 #2 Posted August 21, 2012 In my manual it refers to the high idle, and in parenthesis it says (main jet). So that is set to 2 turns from bottom, and the low idle is set at 2-1/2. This is all assuming that you DON'T have a Walbro.
chesbaycruiser 83 #3 Posted August 21, 2012 Thanks Bob...that's what I figured (and how I proceeded) and it worked just fine. For the record, I went back and reviewed my Service Manual again, and I think I see the reference you mention...Step 4 under "Adjustments"? I've read the steps about a gillion times, but that reference eluded me. Still, seems to me Kohler could have been a little clearer in their nomenclature! That, or I'm just an idiot, which is also entirely possible! Now to go post a question about Brake Band adhesive..... Thanks again, Chris
rmaynard 15,739 #4 Posted August 21, 2012 Now to go post a question about Brake Band adhesive.....Clear silicone adhesive, something like GE Silicone II
chesbaycruiser 83 #5 Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks again Bob. Unlike the carb settings, I was able to find some posts related to the brake band adhesive, and did get some silicone adhesive. Got things clamped up and setting now. I have to tell you though....I'm not too sure about these Wheel Horse tractors. I mean really....there's still plenty of friction-lining left, but the adhesive on this brake band only lasted 39 1/2 years!

I would expect at least 40 years. :disgust:

Chris, you do have your original receipt, right? :)
chesbaycruiser 83 #8 Posted August 23, 2012 Yes, Tuna, in fact I do! You're right Bob...a VERY sternly-worded letter!
Tankman 3,520 #9 Posted August 24, 2012 Thirty nine years, ouch! As recommended, write a complaint letter. Should have lasted a minimum of fourty years unless you're drag racing .
