Tater digger

I just finished my tater digger and thought i would share some pic. , I'm going to paint the old cast iron Clinton next, This has been a fun project but I've been told I might be nuts, Cause I only got two 18 foot rows potatos

How about some pictures from the front of your digger (in front of the rear wheels) - I too am trying to figure it out. Looks cool anyway.

Here are 2 pic ,one after testing before paint,the shaker is spring mounted to the scoop in frount and hanges from straps on the off set cam bearings in the back. The frame attaches to the axel hitch and lift like a dozer blade. the chains control the depth .The center strap on the shaker with c clamp lifts the shaker for ground clearance to get to the garden. I will get kids to make a vid. of it working and try to post i will need help with that,,,,,

Looks great! Making things like this is part of the fun in this hobby! So what if they think your nuts for building this, you has fun and you got New toy to play with! I don't see any thing wrong with it.

OH...for digging them back up...and here I was thinking it was made to make putting them IN the ground easier.

Now I got ya. The taters will be laying on top of the ground behind you after getting dug up and dirt sifted out.

Very ingenious!  I hope that the wheels are wide enough and that you can still get good traction while keeping the blade in the ground deep enough.  I can't wait to see the video.

Do you have to open or loosen up the soil before using the picker? What do you use to do that without damaging the 'taters'?
