Removing old decals

Recommended Posts

JC 1965

Yesterday i ordered a new set of decals from Terry ( vinylguy ). I need to get the old decals off so I can get the hood ready to paint while I'm waiting for the new set to arrive. I tried scraping them off but there has to be a better way. :dunno: If anyone knows a better way, I'm all ears. :help:

:USA: :wh: Jerry go to Harbor Fright and pick your self up a cheap heat gun they peel off real smooth I even reused the old ones on a worker that I had . it will peel right off like butter. There are about $20.00 or any hardware store will have them I hopes this helps. Gary B.......

:text-yeahthat: Plus I use a plastic scraper instead of a metal one so not to scrape the paint.

As I read the 1st post and the heat gun answer, I was going to suggest a hair-dryer, but I guess you talked me out of that!

I bet you could use it and put it back nice & neat, and she would never know you used it :angry-nono:

I find that if I heat the backside of the metal with a heat gun it works much better otherwise you melt the decal and it breaks in little pieces

A heat gun, purchased after reading this post, worked great on my '68 Raider 12.

The Wagner heat gun was 'bout $25.00 USD at Lowes.

Scotch Brite with paint thinner removed all the left over adhesive in just minutes.

Hood, steering tower, all ready for a new set of decals. Looks great.
