No fuel pump?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 1966 Massey Ferguson MF10 to salvage the HH100 block. I didn't realize until I got it home that there is no fuel pump!? The flywheel, alternator coil, PTO pulley and ignition from my 1969 Charger 10 all fit perfectly on the new engine. But...w ill the tractor run without a pump? :eusa-think:

Only if the fueltank and hose can gravity feed the carb.

I drilled and tapped a vacuum line on the HH100 I have. It didn't have a pump either. It ran ok without but you have to keep the tank full if you have some grades.

Thanks, Mike and Bob for your responses. The tank on the WH sits high enough that it might gravity feed the carb, but I'm wondering if there will be enough pressure to push the fuel through a filter. Bob...where on the block did you drill a vacuum port?

I drilled it on a raised flat surface under the carb. I had seen other vacuum lines in this area and there was a marking that looked like crosshairs within a circle. I figured X marked the spot. I used a 1/8 inch pipe thread elbow with a 1/4 inch hose end. I bought a tap for a few bucks from Fastenal. I forget what size drill bit I used. I googled it and found it though.

Like I said....it ran OK for me with gravity. I had a filter inline. I kept the tank full.

What style fuel pump do you have Bob? I have an auto pulse walbro pump on mine and I'm having some problems with it. It seems to not push out any fuel at all. It dribbles out of the pump. Am I not getting enough vacuum pressure? Or does the pump need a rebuild? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Mine is the type that attaches to the carb. There apparently was problems with it because in the technicians manual it mentions a replacement.

On the old 5 HP flat head Briggs engines we used on go-karts we would remove the valve cover and replace it with one made of alum. tapped for a 1/4" fitting to connect a fuel pump. I made mine out of commercial alum. door frame. That way you don't have to drill the block .
