Hi everyone. Just a quick question. I know we are supposed to put 10w-30 in the hydro on this tractor but, being as I don't use it for blowing snow or any wintertime use. What do you think of using 15w-40 instead? The simplicity citations I had used that in their hydros. Would it be too thick? Just a thought. Pat

It probably is OK bit I don't know enough to deviate from what is specifically recommended.

If it acts strange for some reason you won't know if its the oil or something else.

Too heavy / thick could cause some unexpected issues.

It is no fun changing the oil and filter on a hydro if it doesn't work out so I would go with what is recommended.

I would go with 10W-30W.

The Tru-Turf greens roller at work has an Eaton 1100 series hydro unit. The manual states that Mobil 1 synthetic 15W-50 can be used in hot climates, but that's mainly because of the heat build-up due to rapid & repetitive direction changes. Click here for proof. :D

You might find it a little slow "out of the gate", but it will probably be fine once it gets up to normal operating temperature.

The manual for my 1996 314H specifies 10W-30W or 10W-40W premium quality motor oil.

Unless you're having issues with the trans and want o experiment I'd stick with OEM spec. I have a 314H and went with an Amsoil product. Its fine all summer and moves right along in the winter. It was either 10/30 or 10/40. Whichever the book called for.

Thanks for your input guys. The reason I ask is I have alot of 15-40 in stock. I use it in my bobcat and my pickup and diesel wood splitter so as usual I came up with yet another brilliant idea :techie-eureka: . Just thought I'd ask before it turned out like alot of other brilliant ideas I have had :banghead::laughing-rofl::no: :scared-shocked:
