how much does it usually cost to rebuilt rear ends ? mine today pushing dirt better than it ever has and all of a sudden started like jumping in and out of gears. still going in gears but getting pretty jumpy..... i had water in the gear oil i changed that like 4 times withiin a month to flush it out. usually it would slip the belt pushing but this time it would spin tires trying to push but today man if i had weights it would push alot......but they say when things are going great they go bad just a fast..... if cost to much try to trade or sell would like a c141 hydro

Sounds to me like a worn belt or Maybe a sheared woodruff key in the wheel hub..I would start there before tearing into anything else...let us know what ya find and we will get you back on your Horse!!

Hopefully what Mike said is your problem...if not...could be a worn input gear that engages the 2nd and 3rd gear on the shift fork. This would usually pop out of 3rd gear with a load. It is fixable with used parts, but you have to break down the trans. :) I know there are pictures of this on the site...TT had some great pictures a couple of years ago.

I had an 856 with a slipping input pulley. Don't know how, but the woodruff key came out and the pulley was holding on by friction and rust.

I'll echo that of others as well. Somewhere I posted up pics of the third worn gear as well. It doesn't engage very far at all. Charlie used to sell the unidrives rebuilt for $200...complete w/ paint. Not sure if he still does that or not.

well kelly said he should have one to fit that. im going to check the key way. i am sure it is not a belt cause it is a clunking noise and grinding and going in and out of gear. no matter if 1st 2nd 3rd reverse didnt matter. i am looking to maybe deal for a c141 hydro lift and a more powerful engine

Perhaps a moot point, but if it's grinding in and out of ALL gears, perhaps the belt isn't slacking enough, and keeps things spinning causing the grinding. :eusa-think:

ok had it running sitting on it be the left wheel keeps going in and out of gear the right wheel had no action at all. hooked onto my 900 pound roller it had no problems moving before cant budge it. so thinking it is internal,,,,,,,, 2nd 1966 that ive had with problems my 876 hydro was weak then motor cracked cylinder wall,, now this motor runs great just no movement.

I'd say time to pull it and split it....Hard to tell with out opening it up but I would guess pinion gears or axle gears...If so I think we have enough parts to fix ya up...Take some pics and let us see what going on..As far as the hydro maybe the guys with more knowledge will jump in.
