bhenders 2 #1 Posted August 7, 2012 Subject tractor is starving for fuel. Will start but dies out fairly quickly. After it dies I can remove the fuel hose at the fuel pump and see that virtually no fuel is getting to the fuel pump. (Actually after it dies there will be very little fuel present. After it sits a few minutes there will be enough fuel to support a minute or two of run time.) (This is, of course the 8 hp Kohler K181S) So it does not take a genius to take apart and inspect the fuel bowl. Problem is, I do not see a single thing wrong. The wire mesh screen is not exactly pristine but it would not block fuel. And I made sure the open/close valve is all the way open. Cleaned the screen and put it back together but the problem persists. I hate to buy a new fuel bowl when I cannot find anything wrong with the old one. Hoping someone out there may shed some light on this fuel bowl issue. Thanks! I could not resist taking a look at the fuel pump. littleredrider 409 #2 Posted August 7, 2012 Make sure the line is clear, nothing blocking it. Also check inside the tank for debris floating around. The carb is just low enough compared to the tank which makes a fuel pump almost not necessary, Take the pump apart, get some fine wet/dry sand paper and wet sand the halves of the pump on a smooth flat surface, say a table. They tend to warp over the years, and you will be able to see any low or high spots. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

bhenders 2 #5 Posted August 8, 2012 A very special thanks to littleredrider, squonk, and amcrules00, for their prompt and accurate diagnosis. Yes, it was the rubber fuel line! Actually, I should have known to check this, as I know the increase in ethanol content can really be tough on old rubber that was not intended to be exposed to it. wingrider 21 #7 Posted August 11, 2012 I just bought some ethanol fuel line yesterday from NAPA store, the pn is 7-08152 and its called TYGON TUBING. I've had a running battle with this problem on a NO Name Raider 10 HP tractor. I sure hope this will fix it. The fuelline is Yellow in color and you can almost see thru it.
