Removing Shift Forks?

Recommended Posts

How does one remove these in the RJ58-59 transaxle? Want to finish tearing mine down and paint the inside with glyptol or similar.

Also, are replacement axles available?

Thanks,

-Ryan

You have to tap out the roll pins that are holding them in. Make sure you mark each shaft and fork for the hole they came out of for replacement. They have to go back in the same holes. Not hard, but that is how it is done. There is 2 detente balls and a spring with a piece of steel in the spring that will come out when you take out the shafts. Pay attention where they go, they can pop out and take off on you. These are horizontal to the shafts and between them...they go into the grooves in the shafts when you shift the transmission. Here are 2 videos that may help you.

This video is not the same trans as yours, but it shows how to put the detente balls and spring back in. :)
