painting"WHEEL HORSE" on the front of a round hood

Recommended Posts

How do you guys paint the WHEEL HORSE logo on the front of your round hoods? I want it to look good and I don't have the steadiest hand any more to just do it with a brush. I was thinking a small ink roller, But then I thought I would just ask here!

I had an artist friend do mine. What he did was smear rubber cement on the area and let it dry. He used a razor blade to cut the cement of off the flat part of the letter and left the rest there as masking. Painted it and when the paint was dry the rest of the cement was peeled off. I guess it's an old trick.

Like Brian, I use a paint pen. Available at most Targets or Walmarts in the craft section.

I use a paint stick, mine had a broad round tip, but I already had it in the tool box.

Going to try the paint pen thing. Should be able to find one at my local hardware.

I used a cigarette filter, and a small @ss brush with testors (modeling) paint. worked well, and even did the Kohler raised letters. The paint pen didn't work so well for me. I mixed a couple of colors to get the off-white cream look to match the rims. Either method, you'll still need a pretty steady hand. Good luck.

I had wheel paint left over when mine was done. Actually the color was Allis-Chalmers cream.Still looks great 2 years later.

I spray a little Rustoleum antique white paint into an old paint cap and use a good modelers brush. I don't just paint the front of the letters I also paint the sides of the letters. They probably didn't do it this way at the factory as its a little more work but I think it makes the name POP a little more. I usually have a few beers first to dull the sense's.
