Tankman 3,518 #1 Posted July 21, 2012 Only had my "new" '73 (posted '72 'not') Horse for a week; 12 HP / Automatic. The tranny dipstick is under the seat. Level is up, works fine. 1) Where's the drain plug? 2) Is the filter removed like an oil filter? Clean the seat, filter has a ring gasket? 3) Where can one fine the filters? I have a Cub SLT 1550, its' gotta go. Nothing like a red Horse!
pfrederi 17,885 #2 Posted July 21, 2012 Drain plug uses a 1/4" allen wrench ( you usually have to clean dirt out of the hole) located on the bottom of the housing just to the left of the drawbar tab that is under the housing. Filter is changed like an oil filter. Toro 79-5270
squonk 41,345 #3 Posted July 21, 2012 Napa 1410 is a hyd/fluid power filter that crosses to the Toro number. Works great in my
Tankman 3,518 #4 Posted July 22, 2012 Drain plug is bottom of the tranny, not part of the Sunstrand pump? Filter does change like an automobile oil filter? Started painting today, RustOleum Regal Red, nice match. Hard to believe this Horse is 39 years old. Like the old Horses' I owned years ago, this tractor is "beefy!" The transaxle is the reservoir for the hydro pump, hence the drain is there (as is the fill hole/dipstick)
