I use this on automotive body repair which should serve you the same way. Its called bondo and is a light weight filler. Works great- http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Lightweight-Filler-%281-Gallon%29-Bondo_7100914-P_N3373B_T|GRP2006_____ By the way if you order online you get a 15% discount if you use the code at the top of the page and just choose site to store shipping when you order which is free and just pick it up at advanced.

Every one has there favorite brand, But you will have to try some and see if it works for you. Some are better then others, But I tried some bondo brand glazing putty from O'rieles in a small tube and I really liked it, I got it with hardener.

I like a filler called lab metal. You can get it at fastenal. You need to use their reducer thou and it hardens to almost steel properties. You can machine it, drill and even build up shafts with it. It has the properties of metal to be able to powder coat it so its got a good heat resistance also. Just my two cents

Dittos on Icing. It's a real nice, easy spreading, polyester finishing putty. Don't over do it on the hardener though. Just a little too much and it will set up before you can get it spread out.

I use good ole Bondo brand lieghtweight filler for smoothing my surfaces, and I've used it alot over the years, and liked the results so long as I took the time to block sand it really well. I have to confess though, I've never even tried anything else, so there may be others that are easier to use. I did use JB Weld on a couple spots on my most recent project, and I really liked it. :twocents-02cents:

My dad and I always use bondo. It works great. Just remember that when you're applying it, try to leave as little excess as possible. It will save you A LOT of sanding time.

BONDO. The only brand I know, have used their filler since the mid 60's. Never had any problem with cracks and/or adhesion.
