vinceo 34 #1 Posted July 6, 2012 Hey guys I need some help please. My neighbor has a B 80 with a 181 on it and I cant find a spec number on it. What I need is a new fuel pump, or rebuild kit. I looked today at work on kohlers site and I could only find one that has the plunger arm that is bent about 90*, the one on this horse looks like an "S" kinda. I did find a thread where a guy here make the rebuild kit that looks like it may work. Id like to find a new one if they are still aval. I did find a number on the housing A231796. Also is there someone here that parts out WH's he will also need a good steering shaft and gear, down the road. TIA vince
AMC RULES 37,143 #2 Posted July 6, 2012 PM member Buckrancher, Brian might have the kit for your pump. Either members Kelly or Jdog, should have the other parts you need too...both have ads in the vendor section.

Wheel Crazy 23 #4 Posted July 6, 2012 I have an original K-181 fuelpump I may sell, pm if interested. The newer ones you buy from your local Toro dealer look very wierd, but it does work. A new one from a dealer can run from $50-$60.
vinceo 34 #5 Posted July 6, 2012 Dose anyone have the part number to the pump. We are a kohler dealer if I had the number I could just order it. With out the spec number Im kinda dead in the water. The cubs I deal with dont have pumps on them.
Wheel Crazy 23 #6 Posted July 6, 2012 When I ordered mine from my local Toro dealer I just had to give them the numbers off the motor, like the serial number, etc. Also check the cam because that could be the problem also. Right where the fuel pump was look to see the cam and see what kind of condition it's in. I bought a fuel pump for my 8hp Kohler, but turns out that wasn't the problem it was the tired cam in the motor. So now my tractor has a gravity fed tank on it because it cant get gas. You can also get a electric fuel pump for about the same price at ypur local Napa. Here is the link. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=BK_6101051_0334663654
vinceo 34 #7 Posted July 6, 2012 This one is working, kinda, its leaking fuel back into the crank case. He wats to keep it stock. I went threw like 40 pages yesterday on kohlers site looking for wheel horses. Found 4 with this motor in them. So I wrote down all the specs I found, then looked at the pump break down. I found one that started with an "A" for the pump. I will have to build this eng this winter, and Ill check out the cam for sure. His bigest problem is he dosnt like to change air filters and fastest he runs the eng is maybe half speed. Ive told him that the air cooled engs need to be run high speed when were working in the garden to keep the jug cool. Its had 2 sets of rings in it all ready. I think hes afraid to wear the eng out if he runs it at ful throtal. Im going to do some more digging today and if I can find anythng Ill get that rebuild kit from the classic car guy. Thanks everyone for the help!
rmaynard 15,779 #8 Posted July 6, 2012 You have to be careful in rebuilding an alloy (metal) pump. Even if you can find the proper rebuild kit, sometimes the inside of the pump is so corroded from moisture that it is impossible to get the check valves to seal, even if they are new. The stock engines on B-80's were either a K181-30461D or 30629D. Both call for the same pump A-231796-S, which has been superseded by 41-559-05-S, which is a plastic replacement pump. Kohler is not making a metal pump.
