problem with d 18

d one

Well finally got to look into my tractor problem, found out that i can push the tractor without turning the push valve open. however after i pushed it into my work area i found out the next day that their was a big puddle under the transaxle. So i started tearing the wheels off and body panels to expose the pump and motor its a new thing for me.I have it up on jack stands, crawled under the transaxle and the leak seems to be comming out where the transaxle splits. My question is before i start tackleing some of the sugested things in the downloaded manual can i get o-rings and gaskets? Also what does it mean when i can push it with the valve closed?

From reading your earlier posts you may have a sheared bolt or something similar in the transaxle. The tractor should not be easy to push without the tow valve opened. Whatever let go may have cracked the case a bit causing the oil to leak out where the halves join.

My D has been suspiciously easy to push with the tow valve closed, but I don't seem to have any transmission problem (at the moment). I've always wondered about that.

The fact that you have oil coming out from where the transaxle splits is pretty worrisome. I think I have to agree with Bob. You will probably end up taking it off of the frame and opening it up to find out. Either that, or replace the whole thing.

Would be helpful if you could post some pics.

I too noticed that while working on my D200, fabricating my loader, that it is able to be pushed (moved) with the "tow valve" closed. :confusion-confused: It drives just fine, I had to use it to mow with ( way earlier this season) when my D160 went down with carb issues. :eusa-doh:

Curiosity got the best of me so I tried to push my D160 with the valve closed and it will NOT move :confusion-shrug: Not sure what is going on there :huhs:

there isnt much to a d rearend i have one apart now to replace the housing that was broken and welded back together . they had soft bolts in the carrier and when they broke there is nowhere for the parts to go thus breaking the case ,the common repair was fix the bolts ,find the pieces and weld it together , i mean right down the seam, cracks ,whatever is broken ,looks bad and scary
