acsousa82 5 #1 Posted June 25, 2012 I have noticed the Unidrive on my 753 has developed a bit of a whine. No performance issues and I suspect having dual wheels and now 82lbs weights on each wheel probably causing some bearing wear. Currently using 80W90. Any suggestions as far as changing type of trans oil. Any help or info is much appreciated.
Ken B 3,164 #2 Posted June 28, 2012 I have used Lucas gear oil before with decent results on noisy rear diffs. I was wondering why you were sitting on the side lines during the Friday night cruise. That kid that was riding around with that C-195 at the show with the rear dual tires is gonna put some wear to the dif on that tractors bearings for sure! Hope to see you and your Pop at the show next yr!
acsousa82 5 #3 Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks Ken. I think I have more fun watching the cruise than actually being in it. And I agree, that C-195 was a beast, he basically took up the whole lane!. That kid must have put at least 24hrs on that tractor throughout the whole show.
SPINJIM 1,981 #4 Posted May 16, 2013 I've just been exploring the forums for info on ''whining' from the Unidrive trans. Thought I'd add this info. I bought a C-85 with old dirty trans fluid in it, so I figured I'd drain it and put clean lube in it. The local Toro (ex-Wheel Horse) dealer recommended the 80-90 weight that goes in most trans. The Unidrive was NOT making any noise before I changed the fluid, but after I put in the clean 80-90 weight, it whines like crazy in 2nd and 3rd after it runs for awhile. Seems like the trans likes the thicker dirty lubricant better. I just read that Wheel Horse originally recommended 90-140 weight oil for the Unidrive, so I'm going to drain it again, and put in some heavy lube. Maybe I'll throw in a little saw dust with it (not) . What have others experienced? Can't wait for June 21st. Jim
stevasaurus 22,872 #5 Posted May 16, 2013 Like was said above...sounds like you are trying to get a little more then the trans was designed for. Lucas oil additive is excellent, a lot like STP...that with straight 90 wt or 90/140 should take care of it...unless you have a bearing going bad.
