Uni-drive slipping?

Recommended Posts

HorseWhisperer

I am experiencing a problem with a 67 Lawn Ranger that's got me baffled.Got it running after what I was told was decades and it runs good.Only problem is the drive belt is good, all pulleys and keyways are in tact, brake drum spins freely but its slipping in all forward and reverse gears. It worked faintly for a trip in third up the block and back after I changed the rear lumber but back to it slipping. This is in the differential? Ihave applied belt dressing and observed the belts and pulleys, all is right on the outside. What in the world would cause this rear end to surge and not work?

I found my small dilemma.I picked the rear tires off the ground and found the woodruff key on the right hub is just enough to catch and slip.Couldn't see this with tires on the ground!Dee-d-DEe

Manual transmissions dont slip. if the gears are good then its either the drive belt or the woodruff keys/hubs'input shaft/pulley. If all the teeth are on the gears then transmissions cant "slip"

Maybe the belts and pulleys are turning but the shafts arent?
