1972 Commando 800 Custom

Wheel Crazy

Well I decided I am going to build up this Commando 800. I want it to be different from other tractors. Most of the tractor is there. Not sure if I want to repower it or use its original 8 horse. What do you guys think I should do with it? I think it would be really cool with a orange paint job and white rims. Maybe even lowered?Well here are some pictures of its current state!!

I say use an original 8 HP and if you go with orange, maybe you add red highlights. Or maybe Terry can hook you up with some custom decals.

Thanks!! I do not have another engine for it yet, I have been searching Craigslist for a good deal on one. I really want a diesel motor!

The 8hp is missing some parts and it tore down, although most of its there. It would be nice to have the original motor in it. Yeah have Terry make orange, white, and blue decals!!

Need some help on ideas on how to lower it. I know you flip the front axle, but what about the back? Smaller tires and make the fender lower? Here are some pictures!

Have you give any thought to the "Toro WheelHorse" Red?

Personally I really like that color, and prefer it to the WheelHorse Red of the pre Toro days. i cannot help but notice this everytime I look closely at my 1991 312-8 and 1986 417-A sitting side by side in the garage.

"Need some help on ideas on how to lower it. I know you flip the front axle, but what about the back? Smaller tires and make the fender lower?"

I'd keep the standard size rear wheels and raise the trans instead. You could cut the trans mounting plate off the back of the chassis and weld it back on higher up, not forgetting to add extra strengthening.

You might need to give the shifter sticks and other bits a bit of a trim to fit the new rear trans position..

I guess it all depends on how much you want to cut your WH up!

That's the way I'd lower the rear anyway.

I would not flip the front axle, it makes the king pin angle backwards and the thing will drive very poorly..

Raise the axle up & used shortened spindles.

Stig has it on the rear, raise the trans. But I would use shorter tires.

you can put 205/50-10s on the back. maybe get 4" ranger wheels for the front, or some short 6" tires

above is a link to the 205/50-10s. several makers to choose from. duro makes some nice ones
