Can anyone tell me if the lift cable assembly was originally painted the same color as the tractor?

Bob,

I think originally that had a lite plating on it. Which over time rusted away. I painted our 701 cable in a silver hammered color. It looks ok.

It looks like mine was originally red, I think.

The tube was red on mine, but the cable ends were zinc coated I believe.

The housing is red, I think as stated above the ends and cable should be zinc silver, but I have tore a few apart that looked like orig. paint tractors and the ends had red on them.

for the clean detailed look zinc plated would look best.

When I took the old broken one off of my 606 the housing was red. Bought a brand new one from parts tree for my 606...works and fits nice. :)
