Suburban 400 Tranny Help

Recommended Posts

stevebo

I decided to tear into the Suburban 400 I picked up at the Somers show a few weeks back. The tranny had issues and here is what I found..

I have all the NOS parts to rebuild it with one exception... The inside of the tubes that go into the bronze bushings have been scored pretty bad. See pics

Has anyone come up with a good fix for this? I had an extra set and decided to grind the welds and take the tubes out see below

My concern in getting them perfect prior to re welding. Any input here is appreciated. I guess I am looking for a good set of sideplates to complete my rebuild. If you have a set you are looking to part with please let me know. Thanks-

Steve, there was a thread not too long ago about (I think it was called) spray welding and then you could turn the tubes back to tolerance..might be more then you want to go through, but it would work. I think that RMaynard was talking about it. :)

Steve turn the tubes 180 degrees, the underside of the tubes should not be as scored if at all... its the non-load side of the inner tubes. Put together a jig or get a set of 90 degree magnetic welding corners and mig them back into the side plates. I can give you a hand but I wouldn't be able to have them done for the "Big Show".

Thanks VIn. I was thinking that is a good solution as well.
