MarkPalmer 81 #1 Posted June 6, 2012 Forgive me if I sound stupid but this is the first WH transaxle I have had the opportunity to work on. Looking at my 867 (just acquired from my father in law) it looks as though it has been leaking gear oil from the 6 speed tranny out the axle seal on the engine PTO side for some time. The manual shows a seal on this side that looks to be replaceable by removing the wheel and hub and prying the seal out. Is that the case? Other question- isn't/shouldn't there be a seal on the other axle too? The manual doesn't show one there and it doesn't look like there is one. What keeps that side sealed? Thanks for any help, -Mark-

There is a keyway in the axle. Make sure you cover it with some tape when you push the new seal on to avoid damaging the seal.
