Something simple turns into a big project

So the bathroom shower faucet was dripping. Go and get the parts to repair and when disassembling the faucet, things start to go bad. Tried to put it back, but it now leaks inside the wall. Great, so I start to tear into it, by destroying 2 tiles and the cement backing board. Go to Home Depot, pickup a new faucet and all the parts to put it in, come home to do the work and the new valve is wider so I have to do some pipe rerouting (great). Good thing I picked up 2 1/2" pipe plugs so I plugged it up so I could turn on the water in the house. I know what tomorrow's job is now!

The only good thing is I replaced the tiles and backing board a few years back and still have a box of tile, backing board, mastic and grout so it should all go back together and look fine. UGH, all I wanted to do is stop a drip!

Been there and done that! The sad thing is it will not be the last time it happens! At least you were able to get away from it for the night. It could have been a allnighter to fix. you could see if you could make a access hole behind it so it will never happen again.

It's nice that we have other showers in the house, so I can take my time to do it without worrying about smelling bad. Had I known, I would have stated this on a weekend. I'm putting in shut off valves on this thing now so at least the next guy who has to do this won't have to shut off the water to the house. Man does that stuff come out nasty when you turn it back on again!

You saved a drip here, a drip there . . . all those drips add up, could be several dollars every year you saved in water, and it only cost you ? ? ?

Been there, done that . . . hundreds of times.

Sit back and laugh, now you know what to do if that exact same problem ever happens again.

Being a handyman/home improvement contractor, I run into this sort of thing every day. Welcome to my world.

...and Home Depot is about the worst when it comes to getting any sort of help with plumbing issues.

My local hardware store (where I prefer to go plus it's a LOT closer) has a motto that plumbing is a 3 trip project. Well been to the hardware store twice this morning and counting Home Depot, that is 3 so looks like I'm all set to get this show on the road, just have to wait for the family to finish all their showers so I can shut off the water and start plumbing. I really don't mind the plumbing part, it's the putting the wall back part that I don't like to do!

I hate the plumbing part of it. Putting the wall back together is a piece of cake.

Well, it's done. Have to wait for the grout to dry and caulk the tub spout but it's all taken care of. I messed up on one of the plumbing fittings. I don't know how it slipped past, but somehow I didn't clean it. Of course I found out when the water came back on. Took everything back apart saw the bonehead move and fixed it up.

Mike, fixing the leaky shower is a piece of cake NOT!

So uh Karl. What DID you do with all that money your parents spent on plumbing school? :ychain: Sorry, couldn't resist. I am glad it is panning out for ya. I usually don't like to tackle small projects like that. Unless of course, I can make a genuine disaster out of it. Pat
