Is a 1054 hard to steer by nature

Its been 10-12 years since Ive owned a 1054.The one I have steers like it has a broke bolens sitting on the front axle!

That Bad Huh? I wouldn't think it should steer that hard. Is something binding, or maybe rusty?

Clean up what you can around the gear, then shoot some grease in the fittings. I had 520 with the steering reduction, when I first got it it was super hard to steer, like trying to steer a car with P/S and not having it work. Shot some grease in the joints, moved it back and forth, and then became effortless.

Thanks Red.We sometimes overlook the simple and need our noses rubbed in it from time to time!I can see the gear up top and seams greasy but I'm gonna get the gun out and hit the zeros before my head hits the pillow!Duh!Btw,we gotta get together and see if there's any horse trading to do!

Gonna take some thought here,I wish it were that easy.I jacked up the front,got the spindle zeros,the axle pivot the lower steering shaft,the steering gear pivot.I white lithium all the ball/sockets.Nothing better.took the steering wheel off and shot some lithium down the shaft and it freed up a little.seemed ok til I set it back on the ground.It came with some wide 3-4-500 tires but I cant see that making a huge difference.

i see your from Bingo-town as well!!! Small world!! Might take a little for the grease get everywhere inside the bearings, joints and whatnot. I know the 1054s are bigger and heavier than many others, but my 1045 long frame with the diesel isn't too light, but it's not hard to turn at all. Might have to start checking each point in the steering....

I done did that/Lol.I had a beautiful one years ago with a great deck and boy do I miss it.It would mow down a forest of redwoods with the tired stock 10 in her.I mowed vacant property with 5 foot tall sawgrass!I got in a pinch and let her go and searched a year to find *this*I almost think the spindles are bent or something.Do you have original front tires on yours?
