neil 2,409 #52 Posted June 17, 2012 Looking good Neil! Someone educate me here...How come the new decals don't look like the ones on the tractor? That is a really nice tractor Neil! Rooster, the ones Joe sent are the correct decals, the ones on the hood now are for a 60 suburban. Jake Thank you for the decal observation Guys & i didnt even notice that they were different , Its great that people here on Redsquare have the amazing attention to detail. The only thing that i noticed on the tractor that i wasnt sure was original was the colour of the seat. Was Red or linen beige the right colour or did they come with both. neil 2,409 #54 Posted June 17, 2012 I have just learned by reading up on some older threads that This tractor is an early 1958 RJ being that it has no serial number on the transmission case unless the trans has been changed at some point in its history. Stigian 1,234 #55 Posted June 17, 2012 She look great Neil, I'd give her a clean and keep the "lived in" look rather than a restore.. But that's just me :D
neil 2,409 #56 Posted June 17, 2012 Thanx Ian , i kinda have to agree with you as i do like the lived in look . infact im gonna spent some of Fathers day today on cleaning & oiling Then i might spend some time on doing the tractor also LOL

I'm pretty sure that tractor also has a K-90 Kohler instead of a K-91 which would also make it early. The grease fitting on the lower steering shaft points straight down instead of out to the side too, which all of my earlier RJ's have too. I noticed in your "stuff" on the hood when you got the tractor there was an original serial decal.......what is the serial # on it. They are kinda hard to read, the number is stamped into the decal so you have to get it under light at the right angle to read. That is probably the original decal for that tractor.....I'm curious. neil 2,409 #58 Posted June 17, 2012 Hi Clay you are right it does have the K90 Kohler & the grease fitting does point downwards .I will check the decal for the serial no but i think you are right it is sooo hard to read , i will use a magnifying glass to see if i can get the number. Does anyone know why the early RJs did not have the number on the transmission case? When the tractor arrived, the trottle cable has been detached at the carb end but im not sure how to connect does anyone have a pic of where the cable connects.? I have just spent a few hours today giving it a bit of a clean although i must say it wasnt too bad, just a bit dusty and a little oil here and there. Its amazing how strong and well built these small tractors are

Its amazing how strong and well built these small tractors are Neil, I found some pics I took earlier of my RJ58 that is in restoration right now that shows that area. Hope this helps you. That serial # in my opinion is one of the most important things to know about a tractors history, because it dates & identifies the tractor. My restoration right now didn't have a serial tag & that really bugs me. Let us know what the # is when you find out, then you can use clear RTV silicone to put it back on the frame. I did that to one of my original tractors & it worked real well, in fact Joe is who told me to do it that way. Also, post the serial & spec #'s off the engine too. I will compare to what I already have to help identify yours. Clay
