Rooster 191 #1 Posted May 14, 2012 I have been working on getting My B100 going and I have been having the darnedest time with the gas tank. I put a new grommet in for the fuel valve to try to repair a leak, and I think it actually got worse! The plastic tank had some "boogered" edges in the hole, so I straightened that up, obviously this has been a problem for the PO as someone had put some type of epoxy around the hole, I removed all that to get the bottom of the tank back flat. How do you guys fix tanks that leak around the valve?
KC9KAS 4,741 #2 Posted May 14, 2012 A couple of years ago I fought a B100 tank for weeks trying all kinds of fixes, and nothing worked. I ended up purchasing one from a member on Red Square.
rmaynard 15,526 #3 Posted May 14, 2012 Many times the seam cracks at the hole. When that happens, it's time to find a new (or used) tank. If it is not cracked, I have had some success heating the rubber grommet with a hair dryer to make it a little more pliable, and I put a little Teflon type pipe sealant on it when inserting it into the hole. Kelly 1,029 #4 Posted May 14, 2012 I throw them in the junk, and grab another from stock a advantage having your own junk yard, I too have seen the seams split.
Rooster 191 #5 Posted May 14, 2012 Tried the heat gun..& I don't have another tank...looks like were on to plan "F" :banghead:
bowtiebutler956 650 #6 Posted May 15, 2012 Rooster, although it may be frowned upon, I've had great luck sealing plastic tanks with JB Stick. It's JB weld in stick form, and I've sealed them up while fuel was still coming out the hole, and they never leaked again. Replacing the tank is the best fix, but if cash is tight, it works very well. Matt :flags-texas:
Rooster 191 #7 Posted May 15, 2012 That is what I was looking for Matt!! I gotta say thanks to the couple of members who PM'd me offers to sell me a tank at very reasonable prices! But this tractor I am trying to sell, and have yet to recievee a decent offer, best so far is a trade +cash deal, and half of the cash I will spend delivering it, lol! SO I really cannot BUY a tank, seeing as I have no choice but to BUY a battery!
